Your SAT® Checklist for Registered Students
As your SAT test day draws near, be sure to review these last minute tips to help you do your best. The Day Before
* Gather up everything you're going to need for the next morning. You don't want to be stuck frantically searching for your Admission Ticket just before you rush out the door. You'll need the following items:
1. Acceptable photo ID. The teacher in the test room may not know you, and you will be late if you have to run around the school looking for one of the teachers on duty who actually knows your name.
2. Your SAT Admission Ticket. If you have lost it, you can probably print it out again. If not, you will be able to test if your name is on the roster of registered students. When you find your assigned seat, your registration number will be pasted on the desk.
3. Check your Admission Ticket for errors. Is your name spelled correctly? Is your address correct? Is the Admissions Ticket for tomorrow?s test? Were you, in fact, assigned to RC, Center number 59930?
4. Be sure that the school code for RC: 696220, is included. This way, RC will get your scores and so if your score report is lost in the mail, you can get the results from the RC Score Report.
5. Two sharpened No. 2 pencils (pens and mechanical pencils are not allowed)
6. A calculator with fresh batteries
7. A hand-held CD player with fresh batteries, if you are taking a Language Test with Listening (November SAT only)
* Be sure to allow enough time in the morning to transfer to the shuttle bus on the RC campus. Cars will not be allowed to enter the campus and the shuttle bus driver will wait for a load of students before taking you to the school building.
* When you get to Marble Hall, read the white board to find your assigned room. Go there and check the list posted outside the door to find your assigned seat.
* If there is bad weather (snow), call the school to see if the test has been canceled.
* Get a good night's sleep the night before the test. Be well-rested and ready to go.
* Set two alarms?one in your room and one in someone else's room, in case you hit the snooze button one time too many. Morning of the Test
* Allow time to eat breakfast. You'll be at the test center for at least five hours and you're likely to get hungry. The Canteen isn?t open on Saturdays.
* Bring snacks. During one of the breaks, you can eat or drink any snacks you have brought with you. A healthy snack will go a long way toward keeping you alert during the entire test.
* Arrive at your test center no later than 7:30 a.m. Students are sent to their test rooms at 7:45. IDs are checked and the test begins at 8:00 sharp. Don't risk getting locked out because you're 30 seconds late.
Give yourself plenty of time to get to get there. Consider traffic, weather conditions, flat tires, and anything else that could slow you down.
* Leave your cell phone at home. Don't run the risk of having your phone ring or vibrate during testing. It will cost you your scores! If you are seen using a cell phone or any other prohibited electronic device while in the test center, or if the device makes noise or vibrates, you will be dismissed immediately, your scores will be canceled, and the device may be confiscated. This policy also applies to any other prohibited digital and/or electronic devices such as Blackberries, pagers, PDAs, cameras or other photographic equipment, or separate timers of any kind.
We strongly advise you not to bring them.
* Use breaks to eat or drink any snacks you have brought with you. You will have several breaks during the test. Use them to relax and eat a snack so you can stay focused.
* Work only on the section you are supposed to be working on. You're not allowed to go back to a section once that section has ended. You also can't start the next section if you finish a section early. Anyone caught working on the wrong section will be dismissed for cheating and your scores will be canceled.
* Even if the school you are applying to does not require the essay, you have to write one. ETS delays the scores of anyone who does not do all the test sections and conducts an investigation for cheating. They contact the test center to see what the student was doing in that time when the essay was not being written. They assume you were working on another section and will probably cancel your scores.
* Do easier questions first. You earn just as many points for easy questions as you do for hard ones.
* Make sure you use a No. 2 pencil on the answer sheet. It is very important that you fill in the entire circle darkly and completely. If you change your response, erase it as completely as possible. It is very important that you follow these instructions when filling out your answer sheet.
* Use all of your time. Students around you may close up their test books and rest their heads on their desks, but you know better. Go back to review problems you weren't quite sure about the first time. Or, if you skipped any hard problems use the time to try to work them out.
* Stay positive and focused. Keep your mind on your work, not your score.
Your SAT® Checklist for Students who did NOT Register or Who Need to Change their Registration
All of the information above applies to you but there are some extra procedures to follow.
*. If you cannot register by the deadline and must be a standby, you must do all of the following:
1. Pick up the paper and pencil copy of the SAT Registration Form in advance of the test date (This form can be found in Woods 106 or Sage 118) and fill all of it out in ink, following directions in the accompanying manual. This process takes about half an hour, and you cannot do it correctly while standing in line waiting for your standby registration turn.
2. Bring the completed form with you on the test day, along with all the other items listed above like a calculator, ID, and pencils
3. Be early as standby students are given a seat on a first-come first-serve basis. There usually are extra materials but often not enough for everyone. Our team gets here around 7 am and the gate guards won?t let anyone in before that.
4. Line up in front of the Conference Room in order of your arrival so that the team of teachers working can add you to the registration list and assign you to a room.
* Standby Registration takes time and has MANY disadvantages, such as:
1. Everyon else has priority over you, so the extra test books may not go to you, even if you are first in line. People with priority include registered students who want to switch from the Reasoning Test to a Subject Test, students registered for another center who want to switch to RC instead, students registered for another test date who want to come on this day instead, etc.
2. There is a significant penalty fee for being a standby.
3. You will not be able to get your score in a timely manner because you will not have a registration number (since you didn?t bother to register!). This means that you will not be able to access you score online, like everyone else. You will have to wait until the mailman brings you your score report a couple of weeks later than everyone else know how they did.
4. Standby answer sheets are processed later than answer sheets of registered students because standby answer sheets need to be assigned a registration number before they can be scored by the computer.
5. Without a computer registration number for the ETS computer to keep track of you, scores, payment information, addresses, even answer sheets are often lost at ETS.
6. The standby rooms usually start later than other rooms and so they finish later, too.
7. Registering for the test on time will save you a LOT of unnecessary stress on test day, and your score will be much better if you take the test when you are feeling relaxed rather than panicked.
