The impact of this law on Robert College, and all other schools in Turkey, is that smoking will be banned on the campus, inside and outside the buildings, effective four months from the date of signature. Two weeks ago, we received an order from the İstanbul Governor's Office to be sure that we enforce the new law.
This means that from May 18th onwards, not only students, teachers and staff, but also visitors - including graduates, parents and friends - will not be allowed to smoke anywhere on-campus. Those wishing to smoke while visiting the school must do so outside any of the gates, including the Bridge and Bizimtepe.
We want everyone to be aware of this change now, so that you will understand that we expect you to respect this rule when it becomes effective. We hope that you will share our sense that the new law is in the best interests of everyone's good health.
